Is it ok for Christians to gamble? Check out this link and let me know your thoughts.

Don't forget to check out the two links at the bottom of that page as well...

See ya Sunday,

Not that I'm a rebel, but I'm dropping a comment before I read the links. Gambling is an attempt to "win the lottery" or win a winfall, win provision of some long duration. But if we are to depend on our Hevenly Father than gambling could be that stumbling block that inhibits our closeness to Him. If one is blessed with a good job that provides security there is still the effert to be renewed each day by God to go and do that work. Can you gamble and be a good Christian? Yes, but some choices in life make the task of following God easier or harder. Now I'll actually visit the links and see how I can be edified.....

The question isn't "can you gamble and be a good Christian" but "should the Christian gamble at all"?

Here are the 5 points the MacArthur gives about why gambling is wrong:
1)Because it denies the reality of God’s sovereignty (by affirming the existence of luck or chance)
2)Because it is built on irresponsible stewardship (tempting people to throw away their money)
3)Because it erodes a biblical work ethic (by demeaning and displacing hard work as the proper means for one’s livelihood)
4)Because it is driven by the sin of covetousness (tempting people to give in to their greed)
5)Because it is built on the exploitation of others (often taking advantage of poor people who think they can gain instant wealth).

I like what you said about the possibility of gambling becoming a stumbling block for the Christian. Based on all of the ills associated with it I would fall of the fence saying that it is a certainty instead of a possibility.

Hope I'm not being too legalistic - I'll send you the full text of MacArthurs sermon for you to peruse...
