Psalm 89:12 12 The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name. (KJV)
In the last post we talked about God creating heaven and earth. Verse 12 continues in the thought that all of creation belongs to God. North and south go without explanation, Tabor is a mountain west of the Jordan river and Hermon is a mountain to the east. So in essence the Psalmist is saying ,”Wherever you are and wherever you look the Lord is there”.
God’s omnipresence is at the same time a very comforting and very disturbing thought. It is comforting from the point that no matter where you go, He is there. Psalm 33:18 says “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;”. His watchful eye is always on his beloved children wherever they travel. This thought is also disturbing for the very same reason, He is always with us. He is with us when we are angry toward another person without cause, He is with us when we think lustful thoughts, He is with us when we commit any multitude of sins which is why it is comforting to know that he looks upon all of us with mercy. Let us be ever mindful that God is continually with us.
”Rejoice in thy name” the psalmist says. All of creation rejoices at the name of the Lord. Paul in Romans 8:22 tells us that all of creation groans like a woman in labor, why wouldn’t it? Creation was corrupted by the entering of sin into the world and this cancer continues to eat away at it slowly each day. All of creation rejoices when it feels the Lord’s presence because it knows that deliverance and mercy is only a word away. The same truth applies to the soul of man that longs to find meaning outside of God. We run from Him, we deny Him, we want nothing to do with Him; for those that are His a question… How much did we rejoice when God breathed life into our spirits?
Rejoice in the truth that God is ever with you. You are never truly alone…
